da lvbet: According to reports in The Times, Tottenham Hotspur are leading the chase to sign Fulham starlet Ryan Sessegnon this summer.
What’s the word, then?
da bet7: Well, the 17-year-old has become a target for a number of Premier League clubs following an outstanding breakthrough season for the Cottagers.
Liverpool have been heavily linked with the left-back but it now appears as though Spurs are in pole position to prise him away from the Championship outfit following the club’s failure in the play-offs.
Sessegnon has been offered his first professional contract but he is yet to sign it as he looks to see what offers are on the table.
How well has he done this season?
He has done brilliantly.
In 31 appearances in all competitions he scored seven goals and provided a further five assists, while he was close to getting a hat-trick in the 3-1 win away at Newcastle United after scoring twice and then winning a penalty, which he wasn’t allowed to take.
Playing at left-back or further forward on the left-hand side, he has proven that he is a consistent performer and that he looks to have a huge amount of potential.
Where would he fit in?
Even though Spurs already have Danny Rose and Ben Davies on the left-hand side of the defence, reports in The Mirror on Tuesday suggested that the former is keen to move back north and that he could join Manchester United this summer.
That would leave Mauricio Pochettino needing cover for Davies and that is the role Sessegnon would likely make if he moved to Tottenham.
The fact that he can play left-back or further forward would also mean that he would be ready to play in the 3-4-2-1 formation that Pochettino preferred in the final weeks of the campaign.
Would he be a good signing?
He certainly would be and like Dele Alli when he joined from MK Dons, Sessegnon would have the chance and platform to develop and flourish under the Argentine.
What’s the verdict, then?
Well, if Rose goes then signing Sessegnon would mean that Spurs have two good options on the left-hand side, but even if the England international stays Tottenham must win the race to sign the highly-rated Fulham star.
