Romelu Lukaku was Manchester United’s major summer signing, but after a fine start to his Red Devils career in goalscoring terms, the powerful Belgian has found the net just once in his last eleven appearances across all competitions.
While it would be wrong to suggest the powerful striker hasn’t influenced games in other ways – although performances against Liverpool and Chelsea were particularly disappointing – a title-chasing club of United’s stature inevitably needs a front-man who’s firing on all cylinders pretty much all season.
But Jose Mourinho has arguably the best second-choice striker in the world to fall back on in Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who has now made four substitute appearances for the Red Devils in 2017/18 after ending last season with a serious injury.
With a crunch match against Arsenal on the horizon, we asked United supporters earlier this week whether Lukaku or Ibrahimovic should start in Saturday’s 5.30pm kickoff. And our poll revealed that although United fans are largely split on the issue, a slight majority are now leaning towards the towering Swede.
