da marjack bet: According to reports in the Daily Mail, Brighton and Hove Albion have had an offer of £8.4m for Gent winger Moses Simon rejected, with the Belgian outfit holding out for £13m.
da esport bet: The Daily Mail says that the Nigerian attacker has been tracked by the Seagulls and their Premier League rivals Tottenham, Liverpool and West Bromwich Albion in recent months following some eye-catching performances out wide.
The 22-year-old was particularly impressive against Spurs in their Europa League ties against Gent earlier this year, and he is looking more and more likely to secure a move to England before the start of the new season.
Having struggled in front of goal last season, Southampton may well be in the market for a new forward this summer – especially after Jay Rodriguez completed a move to West Bromwich Albion earlier this month – and new Saints boss Mauricio Pellegrino could be tempted to make a move for the Nigeria international.
Here are three reasons Southampton should join the race to sign Simon…
Statistics
The winger has certainly made a big impression in his two-and-a-half seasons with Gent following a move to Belgium from Slovakian side AC Trencin in 2015, and he scored five goals and provided a further seven assists in 42 appearances in all competitions last term.
The versatile forward, who usually plays on the left wing or as a secondary striker is quick, skilful and with an eye for goal, and he certainly looks to have shown that he can make a difference for Southampton in the Premier League next season having impressed against Tottenham in Europe.
Price tag
While transfer fees have been hugely inflated this summer, Southampton seem unlikely to break their club-record £16m signing of Sofiane Boufal last year unless they feel that the player is really worth it.
In that respect, spending £13m on Simon could be an attractive proposition as they would look to develop the 22-year-old into a better player and increase his value at the same time – something they have been very good at in recent years when you look at the likes of Sadio Mane and Virgil van Dijk.
Potential
When Saints signed Mane in 2014 he joined as a forward with plenty of quality and potential, but they helped develop him into one of the best and most effective players in the Premier League.
Simon certainly looks to have all of the ingredients in his game to make a similar impact to the one Mane did at St Mary’s, and he could prove to be a huge hit if he was given regular game time on the wing for the south coast outfit next season and beyond.
